STANLEY THEODORE KOCHANOFF
9-Aug-1938 – 21-Nov-2024
Kochanoff, Stanley Theodore died November 21, 2024 at the age of 86 in the Kentville Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Stan was born in Niagara Falls on Aug 9, 1938.
He loved his family dearly, wife Peggy, sons Jim and Tom, daughter-in-law Avai and wonderful granddaughter Jaya. He lived on a heritage farm (built in the 1700’s) that was full of furry critters over the years as the family loved animals passionately.
He was an entrepreneur for almost 50 years and ran a landscape and design business. He was an certified arborist specializing in the preservation and transplanting of large trees throughout the Maritimes. He completed a Master of Urban Planning at Dalhousie University and graduated with a Horticulture/Landscape design degree from Cornell University. He was a self-affirmed workaholic, working long hours as he enriched the Nova Scotia landscape.
Never one to shirk responsibility, he served as president of many landscape related associations as well as developing the Avon Valley Golf course and headed many local groups.
Hockey and sports in general have always been his personal love. He played football at Cornell University. He played hockey as a youth until the Old Timers into his late 70’s. He coached both sons and many local kids. He was a major influence in developing the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society. Every winter, he hoped his Toronto Maple Leafs would make it to the Stanley Cup.
He leaves an incredible legacy of planted trees across Nova Scotia and was key participant in helping save the trees that were damaged at the Halifax Public Gardens.
There will be no formal service although a funeral ceremony will be performed with family at Oakridge Memorial gardens on a nature trail that was designed and built by Stan. A memory tree will be planted in his honor at a later date.
