Graduate Profile- Scott Procter ’20

  • Categories Alumni Updates, Graduate News
  • Date August 12, 2024

Have you often wondered where graduates end up after they finish at the School of Horticulture? Or curious what career options are available in the industry? In our monthly series we’ll highlight a different graduate every month to showcase the diversity. We’ll be sharing the full inside look here on our website!

Meet Scott Procter, Class of 2020!

Director of Facilities, New Earth Solutions

“Our services include the design, maintenance, and installation of living walls, interior plantscapes, green roofs, exterior containers and raised beds, as well as exterior living walls, green facades, and moss walls. We are also expanding into landscaping. My greatest passion lies in ensuring the plant health care for all our installations and the health and safety of our entire team.”

Q: How would you describe your experience entering the industry after graduation?

A: Initially, choosing a path within the vast horticulture industry was challenging, but over time, by exploring various avenues, I have established myself in a specific specialty. My unique knowledge base and skill set now distinguish me to employers.

Q: What challenges have you faced and overcome in your career after graduation?

Finding employers who match my dedication to high-quality work standards has been difficult. Maintaining high standards ensures that ultimately everyone benefits.

Q: What was your favorite plant on the Botanical Grounds while you were at school?

It’s not easy to pick a single favorite plant from the grounds, however there are a few that come to mind. I was very fond of the Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’, Dracunculus vulgaris, and Sequoiadendron giganteum. I also enjoyed the Datura flowers that popped up everywhere as ‘weeds’, which I refused to pick because I think they’re gorgeous.

Thank you Scott for inspiring us to keep searching until for our unique place in the industry! Keep up the great work.
